Due letture brevi e una lunga - Two short reads and a long one

It sometimes happens to meet certain people with a distracted air, they don't seem to care about anything, they don't care about passers-by, neither women nor men, they walk dreamily, their pockets are empty, their gaze devoid of thoughts, yet they are the most passionate people in the world: they are collectors. Beeklam was one of them. He lived in the basement of his large house, full of statues, largely commemorative effigies - a lapidary style that spread almost to the sea.

On January 20, Lenz crossed the mountain. The peaks and high plateaus covered with snow, down the valleys of gray stone, green expanses, rocks and firs. It was cold and humid; the water dripped down the cliffs and jumped beyond the path. The branches of the firs hung heavily in the wet air. Gray clouds passed through the sky, but everything was so dense, and then the fog fumigated and passed wet and heavy among the shrubs, so lazy, so heavy. He proceeded indifferently, he didn't care about the path, now up, now down. He didn't feel tired, he just sometimes regretted not being able to walk on his own head.

From the moment he opens his eyes to the light, man, finding himself thrown at random among all the other things in the world, tries to find himself and conquer himself by emerging from their tangle. But everything that the child touches rebels against his grip and affirms his own existence. Therefore, the struggle for self-affirmation is inevitable, because everything holds on itself and at the same time constantly clashes with other things. To win or to succumb: the fate of the fight oscillates between these two possibilities.
