Le prime immagini del film già invitano ad ampliare prospettiva, la nostra visione abituale antropocentrica, siamo immersi nella natura, shizen, dal significato originario di “ è così da sé “. C’è la natura in questo film, e una piccola comunità immersa nel silenzio delle montagne che la rispetta ma che si scopre debole nell’affrontare la speculazione, l’affarismo del mondo di fuori; e c’è l’acqua, fonte di vita e di contesa, seme liquido di questa storia; e c’è Takumi, lo stimato tuttofare del villaggio, il quale dice che per vivere insieme alla natura ci vuole equilibrio.
Il tutto fluisce, si spezza, riprende fino a confondere, tra sussulti lirici, metafisici, esoterici.
La saggezza taoista significa ricerca costante di equilibrio anche quando questo equilibrio imparziale compromette i nostri interessi personali, quando minaccia noi stessi o i nostri cari; significa azione discreta ovvero astenersi dall’esercizio della forza, rimettere la propria volontà alla neutra successione dei cicli naturali. La logica conseguenza di questo atteggiamento è la sospensione di ogni giudizio su bene e male, giusto e sbagliato, fortuna e sfortuna.
Così il film finisce ciclicamente come è cominciato, con una lenta, lunga carrellata, questa volta sotto il cielo notturno, fluida come acqua che scorre, neutra, imperturbabile.

The first images of the film already invite us to broaden our perspective, our usual anthropocentric vision, we are immersed in nature, shizen, with the original meaning of "it's so by itself". There is nature in this film, and a small community immersed in the silence of the mountains that respects it but that finds itself weak in dealing with speculation, the business of the outside world; and there is water source of life and contest, liquid seed of this story; and there is Takumi, the esteemed all-rounder of the village, who says that to live together with nature you need balance.
Everything flows, breaks, resumes until it confuses, between lyrical, metaphysical, esoteric gasps.
Taoist wisdom means a constant search for balance even when this impartial balance compromises our personal interests, when it threatens ourselves or our loved ones; it means discreet action or refraining from the exercise of force, putting one's will back to the neutral succession of natural cycles. The logical consequence of this attitude is the suspension of all judgement on good and evil, right and wrong, luck and bad luck.
So the film ends cyclically as it began, with a slow, long roundup, this time under the night sky, fluid like flowing water, neutral, imperturbable.
